Tampa Heights

Tampa Heights, located just north of the downtown area, was the first suburb in the city. But it also became one of its first challenged neighborhoods. During Yellow Fever outbreaks in the mid-19th Century, many families fled to this neighborhood from the town. They were looking for shady trees, elegant two-story houses, and a healthy sense of isolation.

When opening a new retail shop in 2021,Jess Rasemont was conscious of the community in which she chose to situate her business. When sourcing products, she focused on women- and POC-owned brands. She wanted to ensure that the companies she chose were socially responsible and environmentally friendly.

Tampa Heights has a vacancy rate that is higher than the average, which means most of its housing units are vacant all year round. This could be because there is a lack of demand for apartments or because the local economy is struggling.
